Creating my figurative art is always an adventure, and this time, it's no different. Working on a 24"x30" oil on canvas piece, I decided to switch up my technique a bit. Typically, I begin by covering my canvas with a thin layer of paint. However, for this project, I embraced a new approach by painting with oil over acrylic. I sometimes use this method on landscapes. It's fascinating how a simple change in method can spark a whole new wave of creativity, adding an element of spontaneity to the familiar rhythm of my artistic expression.
Creating wildlife art is truly a calming and fulfilling endeavor for me. Currently, I'm immersed in the world of painting this on a 20"x24" canvas - a Sri Lankan leopard and her playful cub portrayed using rich oils. The intricate details and lifelike quality of wildlife paintings require a patient layering process, bringing each stroke closer to resembling the vibrant life found in nature. The particular Sri Lankan leopard, known as 'Panthera Pardus Kotiya,' holds a special place in my heart as I've been lucky enough to witness these majestic creatures frolicking in my garden by cover of night. It's this intimate connection with wildlife that truly inspires and drives my creative process, capturing the essence and beauty of these incredible animals in every brushstroke.
